One of the hottest properties in European football at the moment, Erling Braut Haaland has been linked with a whole host of clubs this season after a real break-through year with RB Salzburg. Indeed, according to The Guardian, the Norway international has had 20 clubs from across the spectrum looking to chase his signature.

But reports in recent weeks have begun to paint a much clearer picture about where the £40.5m-rated teenager's next destination could be. The likes of RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund have been touted from the Bundesliga, but Manchester United appear to be well and truly in the mix. It certainly isn't a hindrance that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is Norwegian himself.

And this past week, the United boss was said to have visited Haaland personally to talk to him, later revealing that the young striker now "knows what he wants to do". But whilst the 28-goal starlet has undoubtedly caught the eye of the footballing world this season, and dominated the headlines, the Red Devils have their very own striking prodigy making a name for himself too.

18-year-old Mason Greenwood has struck seven times in 20 senior appearances this campaign, with Solskjaer himself admitting after his equalising goal against Everton, that he is making it hard for him to leave out. After such a statement about the academy graduate, what kind of message would it send if the Red Devils splashed the cash to sign Haaland?

United have their very own talented and ruthless finisher in Greenwood, so what good would it do signing another one? Whilst Greenwood making 20 appearances sounds like a lot, that has only equated to 242 minutes of Premier League football - less than three full games. Solskjaer desperately needs to show a bit of faith in his young forward rather than spending big-money on a talent outside of the club.

The Norwegian made a big song and dance about giving young players a chance, and how it's part of their culture and history.

"You have to be brave. You have to trust your players and trust the kids. We made the decision to start the transition and that transition period has been difficult but I think the young kids are going to learn from it. That's the DNA we have. We do give young players a chance and you won't really know about them until you throw them into deep water and see if they can swim."

But if he doesn't show that with his team selections, then that will all just be talk. January promises to be an incredibly intriguing month for the Red Devils. Sign Haaland, and it would be a damning indictment of Solskjaer's supposed faith in youth, and send a terrible message to Greenwood himself. The 18-year-old has done everything right this season with his goals in his limited game-time. A move for the RB Salzburg ace would be a slap in the face for everything the United teenager has done.

Meanwhile, Manchester United fans have reacted to this major announcement involved their club.
