After enduring a particularly difficult end to the campaign last year, Jesse Lingard may have been hoping that the summer would have heralded a new start for him this season.

The England international failed to score in Manchester United's last 14 Premier League games in the previous campaign, but unfortunately for him, he has been in similarly horrific form this year too, not managing to net at all in 20 top-flight appearances - he has just two strikes to his name across all competitions this season.

Reports in recent weeks had suggested Lingard had teamed up with Paul Pogba's agent Mino Raiola, and now, ESPN claim Atletico Madrid and AS Roma are "leading the chase" if he leaves United. It claims the 27-year-old would like to stay at the club, but has "not ruled out moving on if it helps him rediscover his best form".

After hearing about Lingard's potential exit, fans of the Manchester side took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the situation.

A couple of fans took the opportunity to hail the work of Raiola, with one supporter in particular calling him a "genius" for generating a race to sign Lingard.

Some Red Devils fans simply urged the club to let Lingard go on a free.

Despite coming through the Manchester side's academy, the time may be right for Lingard to leave the club in order to reignite his career. The 27-year-old has struggled for form for a long time now, and so a fresh scenery could do him the world of good.

Both Atletico and Roma are giants in terms of profile in their respective countries, so leaving United for either of them wouldn't exactly be a step-down. The chance to play abroad may not come around often, so Lingard could well be tempted to do so if an offer materialises.
