In what has been a generally disappointing campaign for Manchester United, the Red Devils face the very real prospect of missing out on Champions League football for yet another season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side find themselves six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea who they face on Monday night, although perhaps finishing in fifth may also be good enough considering the recent developments surrounding Manchester City.

But ahead of the clash against the Blues, Luke Shaw sought to defend his team's struggles this season, comparing United's plight to Arsenal.

He said: "No disrespect to Arsenal who are a fantastic club, but they’re not exactly having the greatest of seasons and it’s hardly mentioned. I find it quite funny that if it’s United, everyone criticises, but Arsenal don’t get a mention."

After hearing the left-back's comments, United fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on what he had to say.

A couple of fans even felt that Shaw's comments are worthy of him being kicked out of the club, with one supporter calling for his contract to be terminated.

One United supporter in particular suggested that Shaw's attitude showed why the likes of Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho didn't "fancy" him.

Rather than worrying about how the media are delivering their criticisms, perhaps Shaw should just focus on United.

Just like some of these Red Devils fans suggest, it doesn't speak to a great mentality when you've got one of your first-team players attempting to deflect the spotlight away.

Meanwhile, this could be Man Utd's starting XI against Chelsea.
