Speaking to COPA90, Patrice Evra has revealed that he urged Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to give Brandon Williams a chance.

What did he say?

The academy product has enjoyed a real break-through campaign this season for the United first-team, making 22 appearances across all competitions.

And Evra has now claimed that he saw the potential that Williams had when he went to his former club to do his coaching badges, and was left in awe of his abilities.

He said (as quoted by The Manchester Evening News): “He's got the Mancunian fight, spirit, desire. I'm doing my coaching badges at Manchester United, I go like two weeks per month to do my course, and someone sent me a video about Brandon. I was watching it and was like 'wow, he has got something I really love'.

“After the training session I went with the first-team and I saw Ole. I said 'Ole, do you know about that kid Brandon Williams?' 'Yeah, they say he is good.' I said 'trust me Ole, since I left I can see he can play he can play at left-back.' I said please give him a chance. To be fair he is playing so well and he is not disappointing anyone. He is the future.”

Rise

Whilst Evra is quick to talk up his part in Williams' rise to the United first-team, the full-back himself should take most of the credit for how things have panned out this season.

The starlet has seemingly enjoyed the challenge of competing with England international Luke Shaw for that left-back slot, whilst he has also featured in a left wing-back role whenever Solskjaer has played a back-five.

It's a sign of his remarkable maturity and ability that even despite his young age, he is yet to really make a high-profile mistake for the first-team.

Mason Greenwood may have been the one who stole all the headlines after scoring against the likes of Inter and Leeds in pre-season last summer, but it is Williams who is making it count in the season proper.

He has now started five out of the last seven Premier League games, including against the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea. Greenwood on the other hand hasn't completed a full 90 minutes in the top-flight since December against Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Man Utd fans discuss this starlet's display against Club Brugge.
