According to Italian publication Calcio Mercato, Manchester United had scouts watching Brescia's game against Bologna in order to watch young prospect Sandro Tonali.

What's the word?

Having come through the club's academy, Tonali made his professional debut aged just 17. Such were his performances for the side that he was named Serie B's Footballer of the Year in 2018.

Now, Calcio Mercato claim the likes of United, Ajax and Borussia Dortmund all had scouts in attendance for Brescia's 4-3 defeat to Bologna on Sunday, amidst a potential move for the midfielder.

A major coup

United only had to watch Vincent Kompany's testimonial to lay witness to Michael Carrick's enduring greatness. The former central midfielder dominated with his calmness in possession, and the Red Devils have severely missed a deep-lying playmaker like him.

Step through Tonali. The teenage starlet has drawn great comparisons with Italy legend Andrea Pirlo, with his agent Roberto La Florio even suggesting he is "stronger" than the former Milan maestro.

"At his age Pirlo wasn’t a regista, so if we want to go over the top, at the same age he’s even stronger. Trust me: Tonali is Tonali." La Florio, September 2019

Not wanting to be outdone however, Brescia owner Massimo Cellino went one step further by revealing how out of this world Tonali really is.

"He’s a complete player. He knows how to attack and defend. He’s cold-blooded like a killer, but he plays like a veteran. He’s been a pleasant surprise. I’ve seen so many good players over the years, but he’s half-alien." Cellino, May 2019

The 19-year-old's arrival could help facilitate the Red Devils to become far more comfortable on the ball, and simultaneously land them one of European football's hottest prospects. As Ole Gunnar Solskjaer turns towards younger players with vast potential, the Italian really does fit the profile of what the United boss is looking to build his new side around.
