According to Spanish journalist Dani Merono Bori, Manchester United are interested in signing Valencia left-back Jose Gaya.

What's the word?

The Spain international has been a consistent performer in La Liga for a number of seasons now, and has played 204 times for Valencia in his career.

Despite having the likes of Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Brandon Williams on their books at the moment, Bori claims United are keen on making an approach for Gaya. Further to this, Spanish publication Deporte Valenciano claim the Red Devils want to conclude the signing of the full-back in time for next season, and that the 24-year-old's price is set at €100m (£86.3m).

End of Shaw

Make no mistake about it, if United pull off the signing of Gaya, then that really will be curtains for Shaw's career at Old Trafford. The former Southampton man has had his time at the club marred by countless injuries, which means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer simply cannot rely on him.

Gaya on the other hand, has been everything that the £27m Shaw hasn't been. Dependable. Despite only being 24, the Spaniard has played over 200 times for Valencia, with 159 of those coming in La Liga. He is equally adept at defending as he is going forward, holding impressive career averages of 2.5 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 0.8 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game - the archetypal modern full-back, and capable of putting his foot in when needed.

His attacking forays could be a nice compliment to Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the opposite flank, and give United two young full-backs who are still yet to hit their prime. As Solskjaer looks to continue this Old Trafford rebuild, a move for Gaya makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately for Shaw, that could mean the end of his more than five-year spell at the club.
