Future Manchester United star Wilfried Zaha has been charged by the FA for his obscene gesture towards Leeds fans, and also received a slap on the wrist from the Old Trafford hierarchy for his misconduct.
The winger, loaned to Crystal Palace, was pictured last Saturday showing his middle finger to the Leeds supporters, in behaviour that has understandably seen the Premier League leaders’ chiefs step in, reports The Daily Mail.
Despite having received abuse from the Leeds fans himself, the FA labelled his gesture as improper conduct and could impose a match-ban along with a severe fine.
The winger, signed from Crystal Palace in January and then loaned back to the Eagles, apologised for his action via Twitter after the game, saying: “It was very unprofessional of me”.
However, United, aware of the repercussions of such an act, have told the player that this will not be tolerated when he joins the Red Devils next season.
The 21-year-old was not the only one charged by the FA, as Palace manager Ian Holloway will also be punished for his behaviour towards the officials in the Championship clash’s 2-2 draw.
Zaha now awaits the FA’s punishment, with the one match-ban and £20,000 fine Liverpool’s Luis Suarez received last season for a similar gesture against Fulham a good indicator as to how they will act.
