Old Trafford is no longer the fortress it used to be.
This is the opinion of former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara, who didn’t manage to win a single game against Manchester United at the Theatre of Dreams throughout his career, but now considers the unbeatable illusion in tatters.
It’s hard to disagree though – Crystal Palace, Cardiff City, Burnley and Derby County are just some of the sides to have left with either a draw or victory in the bag in recent times.
The Red Devils defeated FC Astana 1-0 on Thursday night thanks to a late goal from Mason Greenwood, and while a win is a win, it’s not exactly the most inspiring result against a side who had travelled halfway across the world from Kazakhstan, a country that is hardly famed for its footballing talent.
It doesn’t take a genius, then, to realise that United are nowhere near as impressive as they once were at home, which is probably why O’Hara and the crack team of pundits over at talkSPORT were responsible for releasing this nugget of information into the world…
“A 1-0 home win v Astana isn’t exciting.”
“You used to go to United and never pick up a result, but now…”
“You feared Old Trafford when it was Keane, Scholes, Rooney!”
