Fabregas is United’s top transfer target depending on who you listen to, but have been told by Tito Vilanova that the Spaniard is not for sale.
And an opening bid of £26million from the Old Trafford club was not enough to change that stance.
However, Moyes remains hopeful, having returned with an offer for the 26-year-old rumoured by the newspaper to be in the region of £29million.
“We are interested in Cesc Fabregas, but I couldn’t tell you exactly where we are with that,” Moyes said.
“I’m in contact with the chief executive, who has been dealing with it just now.
“I’m hopeful we’ll know a little more in the next day or so. I may have a bit more information in the next day about how it is all going.
“We’re trying really hard to add to the squad.”
United’s second bid appeals to the Barcelona board, according to Spanish newspaper Marca, but Vilanova will have the final say on any sale.
Should the offer be accepted, United are ready to wrap up a deal swiftly, with chief executive Ed Woodward having returned from their tour of the Far East and Australia earlier this week.
