The Portuguese international has been attracting attention from Tottenham for much of the summer, amid rumours that he is surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu under new boss Carlo Ancelotti.
But, United manager David Moyes is ready to rival the Londoners’ interest as his search for a left-back continues.
The Scot had made Everton’s Leighton Baines his top target, however the Toffees’ eagerness to keep the Englishman means a deal may be tough to reach.
Coentrao on the other hand could be available for around £15m, and is desperate to leave the Spanish capital in search of regular first-team football.
Moyes is ready to offer the 25-year-old this, as he looks to draft in a long-term replacement for Patrice Evra.
As well as United and Spurs, French big spenders Monaco are also keen, and have already had one approach for his signature turned down this summer.
Meanwhile, Moyes is also hopeful of pushing through a move for Marouane Fellaini.
The Belgian is said to be keen to move to Old Trafford, and could be available for around £20m.
