A source close to the Premier League champions has said that a deal is almost complete, and the club hope to announce the deal at David Moyes’ first press conference as United manager.
The Spanish youngster is set to leave the Catalan club for just £15million, a fee due to a clause in his contract reducing his release fee if he didn’t feature in a specific number of matches. His move to Old Trafford has been delayed slightly, as Thiago wants to have a similar clause in his United contract.
However, Barcelona are still hoping to convince Thiago to stay, with club spokesman Toni Freixa saying: “There’s no news [regarding Thiago]. He has a contract and didn’t say anything, so he’s still a Barca player now.”
Thiago was in terrific form for Spain during the European Under-21 Championship, where he captained the side to lift the trophy. His first half hat trick in the final saw the nation beat Italy 4-2 to win the tournament.
But his lack of playing time at the Camp Nou has led to the midfielder being heavily linked with United, as they intend to complete the deal as soon as possible.
Would Thiago Alcantara do well at Old Trafford? Is he what United need?
