Manchester United dealt double blow

Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara

Manchester United manager David Moyes has been handed a double transfer blow in just one day, reports The Mirror.

The Premier League champions are in Thailand for their pre-season tour of Asia, but one player has already had to report home.

That man is England forward Wayne Rooney, who has departed the tour due to a hamstring injury. The striker has a tear in his hamstring, and is expected to be out of action for a month.

Rooney’s future at Old Trafford is still in doubt after he held talks with Moyes about his role at the club. This came after the forward handed in a transfer request back in May.

Meanwhile, Moyes has missed out on top transfer target Thiago Alcantara. The midfielder had been heavily linked with United, in a cut-price deal from Barcelona.

But the Spanish youngster has decided to join Bayern Munich instead of moving to England, in a deal that will see him reunite with manager Pep Guardiola.

Thiago is set to sign a deal worth £70,000-a-week with the Bundesliga and Champions League winners, as well as being guaranteed he will have a strong role in the first team.

Moyes will want to improve his squad ahead of the club’s opening match of the new season, which sees United travel to Swansea on August 17th.

Is Rooney’s injury a blow to United? Are Bayern becoming a bigger force than United?
