Barcelona have edged ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Chelsea's Willian after tabling a bid in excess of £55million, according to Sky Sports.

What's the story?

The Brazilian star moved to Stamford Bridge from Anzhi Makhachkala in 2o13 and has gone on to score 25 Premier League goals for the Blues.

Jose Mourinho was reportedly keen on linking up with his former player this transfer window but now it appears Barcelona have stolen a march on Manchester United after submitting a substantial bid for the pacy winger.

No big loss

Manchester United's interest in Willian this summer has been baffling, despite the star's undeniable talent.

If there's one area of the pitch that United have covered it's in attacking midfield positions, with Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford all competing for places behind Romelu Lukaku.

Unless Mourinho has a clear out, there's little space for another big name attacking midfielder and for that sort of money, he could land a quality central defender which they desperately need.

If Barcelona win the race to sign him, it won't be the biggest loss to Manchester United.
