Manchester United duo Matteo Darmian and Antony Martial are huge doubts for their FA Cup final clash against Crystal Palace after both picked up injuries against Norwich City during the weekend.
Martial was set to start the game against the Canaries, but was forced out of the squad during the warm up, while Darmian was seen in a brace after the fixture due to Ivo Pinto’s tackle.
This is a huge concern to Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal ahead of the FA Cup final against Palace, which could be the Dutchman’s last chance to win a trophy for United amid speculation of Jose Mourinho’s arrival.
“Martial felt something and I am a manager who doesn’t want to takes risks so I told him he couldn’t play and he had to sit on the bench with us,” he is quoted by the Daily Mail. “He had a tight muscle and we have to wait and see for the reaction. We have to see if it is still tight.
“The injury of Darmian is a kick on the ankle. He is now walking in a brace but the next day it can be OK. A kick is a kick.”
The injury to Martial forced Van Gaal to put club captain Wayne Rooney back in the striker role, but he admitted that he now prefers the England international to play behind the forwards in attacking midfield.
“He normally plays now at number 10,” he explained.
Man United will face West Ham United in their next league match on Tuesday, which will be the final game the Hammers play at the Boleyn Ground.
