Manchester United eye £20m Italian

Manchester United are keen to seal a £20m deal for Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio before the end of the month, according to reports from The Express.

The Red Devils are set to delve into the transfer market in the coming weeks, with David Moyes rumoured to have been handed a massive budget to get the Premier League champions’ season back on track.

A midfielder is seen as a priority for the Scot, whose side have often been exposed for having a lack of energy and invention in the middle of the field.

Marchisio is seen as the ideal man to remedy this, with reports suggesting that contact has already been made between United and Juve.

The Old Trafford side are believed to be willing to spend around £20m to lure the Italian international away from Turin, which could be accepted by the club after they dropped out of the Champions League at the group stage before Christmas.

With Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal firmly established as the Old Lady’s midfield pairing of choice, Marchisio is seen as surplus to requirements, even though the 27-year-old has featured regularly over the course of the past few years.

Regular playing time with United could be enough to lure him to the club, with a spot in the Azzurri’s squad ahead of the 2014 World Cup a priority.
