Manchester United eye cut-price Porto raid

Fernando (Porto)Manchester United are eyeing a bargain move for Porto midfielder Fernando, according to reports from The Mirror.

Red Devils chief David Moyes is thought to be desperate to lure a new central player to Old Trafford over the winter after missing out on a number of targets during the last transfer window.

Despite snapping up Marouane Fellaini, the Scot is still keen to add to his options.

Fernando has emerged as a target, with the Brazilian set to be available for a fraction of his true value in the coming months.

The South American enforcer’s contract is set to expire next year, and rather than lose him for free, Porto are desperate to haul in a fee.

United are keen to take advantage of the situation with a cut-price move.

Everton are also keen, while interest from Serie A is known to be strong – with Inter Milan and Juventus two names to have been mentioned.

Fernando has earned the nickname ‘The Octopus’ due to his ability to cut out opposition passes with his sizable frame.

The 26-year-old is yet to earn an international cap, but is close to securing Portuguese citizenship, which should iron out any work permit issues.
