Manchester United eye Juventus ace as defensive solution

Manchester United manager David Moyes is plotting a summer move for out-of-favour Juventus defender Martin Caceres, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Scot is set to lose experienced centre-back Nemanja Vidic at the end of the season when his contract expires to add to his already strong concerns surrounding the quality of his current back line.

Caceres has emerged as a potential solution to the problem, with the Uruguayan international likely to be available at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old has featured just five times in Serie A for Juve this season, and appears to have little future in Turin due to the presence of a number of rivals at the club.

He could be available for around £8m, and appeals to Moyes because of his versatility.

Caceres is able to fill in at either full-back position or in a deep midfield role, but is most confortable at the heart of the defence.

The United chief is desperate to strengthen all of those areas in his ranks, and could use the South American as cover for two of the positions to free up funds for marquee purchases.

Caceres has a wealth of experience having represented Barcelona, Villarreal and Sevilla in Spain as well as earning 55 caps at international level.
