Manchester United face competition for starlet’s signature

Benfica winger Ivan Cavaleiro

Manchester United will face a battle to sign Ivan Cavaleiro after a bid of £2million was lodged by an unnamed Italian club, talkSPORT reports.

The 20-year-old Benfica winger has earned a number of plaudits since breaking into the Portuguese side’s first team, with clubs across Europe said to be monitoring his situation.

And it seems the competition to sign the starlet is set to step up, with a Serie A side thought to have lodged a bid ahead of the re-opening of the transfer window in January.

Premier League champions Manchester United have also been heavily linked with the youngster and manager David Moyes may be tempted to bolster his squad after their slow start to the season.

Despite continued speculation, Calvaleiro has insisted he is happy to remain at his boyhood club, though it has been suggested Benfica could cash-in if the money is right.
