Manchester United face transfer battle for star

Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester City are ready to break the bank to sign former Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid this summer, according to the Daily Star.

The Portugese superstar has often been linked with a move away from Real Madrid, with a return to Old Trafford proving a story that simply will not go away.

However, it has now emerged that City are willing to pay a huge amount of money for the forward should he become available, as well as offering Ronaldo a contract worth £300,000 a week.

Manchester United have spent the last five months trying to prepare a deal to bring the forward back to the Premier League, but it has now emerged City are deadly serious about rivalling their interest.

In fact both chief executive Ferran Soriano and football director Txiki Begiristain have spoken directly to the player’s representatives to inform them of their proposed offer.

Ronaldo has two years left on his current contract, and while there has been talk of it being extended, no move has yet been made.

This has led to encouragement in the United camp that a deal could yet be agreed, although the emergence of City’s strong interest could throw a potential spanner in the works.
