Manchester United fans are running out of patience with club-captain Antonio Valencia after he produced another half-hearted performance in the Champions League against Valencia on Tuesday evening.
With José Mourinho’s men struggling to get positive results lately, a victory over the Spanish club was much needed, but instead they were held to a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford. That means that the Red Devils have gone four games without a win after failing to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers, Derby County and West Ham United.
Many fans expected 19-year-old Diogo Dalot to start at right-back after he made his debut for the club in their opening round win over Young Boys. However Valencia, who has been in and out of the squad this season, got the nod ahead of the Portuguese starlet without making his presence felt in the game.
The Ecuadorian joined United in 2009 but has been far from his best in the matches he has played in since the start of the season, and had to rely on other players covering his position on Tuesday when he was too high up the pitch.
Here are some of the Twitter reactions by United fans to his performance:
Antonio Valencia… The human being who's known to play right back with a fear of crossing the ball into the box..

No Dalot, no Fred, no Pereira. Fellaini, Sanchez, Valencia playing what’s going on in this club?

Antonio Valencia just has no idea how to play right back. No positional sense. No end product going forward. Just dead weight in this team, and easily the worst player to ever wear the armband for United.

I dare anyone to tell me one good thing about Antonio Valencia right about now.

Antonio Valencia looks completely finished now. He’s still got the stamina to get up and down the pitch but his positional play defensively is awful. Plus when he gets forward he never crosses it and always comes in field

Two things I’ll never understand why:
1. Rashford taking corners for us.
2. Antonio Valencia playing for us.

If anyone can give me 1 good reason as to why Antonio Valencia still pulls on a Manchester United shirt, please let it be known. He’s bloody terrible. #MUFC
