After all the controversy surrounding his off-the-pitch antics, it's fair to say Jesse Lingard hasn't exactly enjoyed the greatest of summers.

The Manchester United star has come under fire in recent weeks and months for his social media use and lack of focus on football, and on Monday night against Wolves, he did nothing to silence the doubters.

The England international was virtually anonymous in the entire game, registering zero shots and zero dribbles. The 26-year-old was promptly hooked in the second-half for veteran ace Juan Mata, and the ineffective display saw United fans flood to Twitter to voice their discontent.

Many supporters of the Manchester side urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make Lingard's game against Wolves his last for the club, and slammed the performance as "absolutely horrendous".

Indeed, some questioned why the midfielder is still at Old Trafford at all, and demanded the club sell him before the end of the transfer window in Europe.
