Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to express their excitement as links of a move for Roma defender Kostas Manolas grow stronger.
The Red Devils’ supporters are desperate to see a new centre-back arrive at Old Trafford to play alongside the much improved Victor Lindelof, and seem to have grown tired of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling’s ineptitude.
Former boss Jose Mourinho spent his summer chasing a new face to play in the centre of defence for the 20-time Premier League champions, but to no avail. However, Football Italia now reports that United are ready to meet the Greek international’s €36m release clause this month.
If a move for the 27-year-old does materialise, it would show that Ed Woodward is happy to back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the United hotseat and would do his chances of being appointed on a permanent basis no harm if Manolas is a success.
For now, however, fans of the club are getting excited simply at being linked to the Roma man…
Manolas to United sounds too good to be true. We got scammed for Fred and we're paying piano man so much every week, it's unthinkable we'll do a good budget deal. #MUFC

The fact that many Roma fans are genuinely gutted he may leave shows he's not as bad as y'all are making him out to be
Much rather have Manolas over Alderweireld/Militao/Milenkovic #mufc

Honestly if we get this deal done for Manolas, this CB pairing of Lindelof/Manolas could be one of the best. Also, could be one of the CHEAPEST.#MUFC

I really don’t think Kalidou #Koulibaly will leave #Napoli & £120m is a ludicrous amount of money! I think Kostas #Manolas is a very good alternative & only for £34m which would free up funds for a CDM & a RW. #MUFC #UTFR #GGMU #MU #MNU #MUTD #UTD #20LEGEND

Manolas in, Rojo out. Time to move forward. #MUFC

Seen a few reports that #MUFC are preparing to match the £34m release clause in Manolas's contract… I see it as; he is considerably better than Jones, Smalling & Rojo so it's a no brainer for that sort of money, experience at club & international level too… sign him up! 🔴⚽️
