Manchester United fans baffled by Mourinho’s stance on Bailly

Eric Bailly swiftly proved himself to be a shrewd buy when Manchester United recruited the defender from Villarreal in 2016.

The centre-back has been solid for the Red Devils, but injuries have played a part in disrupting his season.

In recent weeks, though, manager Jose Mourinho has opted against playing Bailly due to the fact that he will not be going to the World Cup with Ivory Coast.

By the Portuguese coach’s logic, other defenders should be playing instead as they have been fighting for a World Cup place in their respective national teams.

On Saturday, Bailly was once again excluded as Mourinho opted for Chris Smalling and Phil Jones to partner at the back for the FA Cup final against Chelsea.

Jones was at fault for the one and only goal of the game as he brought down Eden Hazard, who converted from the penalty box to give Chelsea the trophy.

After the final whistle, United fans were left frustrated by the decision to leave out Bailly.
