Whether it's been the struggles of managers or players at Old Trafford, one man who is seemingly always at the forefront of any criticism at Manchester United is Ed Woodward.

The club's executive vice-chairman has come under heavy fire in recent seasons for his apparent failings in the transfer market, but reports in recent months had suggested that they were looking into appointing a technical or sporting director this summer to address some of their issues.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Woodward will remain in charge of United's transfer policy and an appointment to a director post will likely not be made this summer after the club failed to identify a preferred candidate.

The news understandably was met with uproar by United fans on Twitter, with many feeling strongly about Woodward's failure to keep his promises.

Indeed, some aggrieved supporters suggested that the situation had turned into a shambles and the Old Trafford side could be considered the "worst ran big club" in football.

Having failed to secure Champions League football last season and finishing in a disappointing sixth position in the league, reports had claimed that the club were keen on a big summer spend, but the latest news on Woodward's role has certainly dampened expectations amongst the fans.
