Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has so far placed a significant amount of trust in young players since taking the Manchester United hot seat, and that trend looks likely to continue with 18-year-old Nathan Collins on the shortlist.
United have several prospects of their own, but Ole is not afraid to look further afield at players who he can help develop to serve the club long-term. Swansea’s Daniel James has previously been linked, and reports from the Daily Mail indicate that Nathan Collins could make the switch from Stoke – on the recommendation of former Red Devil Darren Fletcher.
The youngster has made only three senior appearances so far in his career, but at 18 the defender has a big future ahead of him and his talent has already been recognised by Republic of Ireland u17s.
United fans, perhaps expectedly, have not taken to the news well, with many concerned that signings young players will not be sufficient in turning around their fortunes of recent years. Others are displeased that the club are taking transfer advice from Darren Fletcher, albeit a former player but someone who does not have an official position at the club.
Here’s a look at how United fans reacted to the transfer report on Twitter…
