Manchester United fans trying to find positives after their 3-0 loss to Tottenham on Monday praised Luke Shaw for his performance at Old Trafford.
Shaw has endured a tough time at United during Jose Mourinho’s reign with the Portuguese boss often criticising the left-back for anything ranging from his commitment to his weight.
United suffered their second defeat on the bounce thanks to a goal from Harry Kane and two from Lucas Moura, a week after their 3-2 defeat away at Brighton. Shaw however has begun to make the left-back position his own this season and the 23-year-old scored in the opening day win over Leicester at Old Trafford.
With new signing Diogo Dalot injured and Ashley Young given an extended break after his World Cup exertions with England, Shaw has jumped at the chance to impress Mourinho. His performance against Spurs will have also caught the eye of Gareth Southgate, who watched on Monday night ahead of naming his squad for the next round of internationals.
Check out some of the best tweets in reaction to Shaw’s performance below.
First thing José Mourinho did after the final whistle was consoling Luke Shaw, our best player who gave everything. Great touch that.

Mourinho went to Shaw. He patted him on the back. His best player since the season began because he worked hard, took his manager’s criticism on board and got on with it when everyone had written him off at United. If only more had responded like that.

I hope Shaw keeps this intensity up no more fluctuating, yesterday he was first to every ball and we saw him beat men for pace his defending was very good too. If so LB isn't a issue

Not one player has had the treatment Luke Shaw has had with Jose yet he was the one ran his socks off last night for the manager, this club and the fans. Hope that left back position is his all season now! #mufc

It’s great that at least Shaw is finally coming good for us. Now, the rest of the team has to catch up. #mufc

I felt so terrible for Luke Shaw. Pulling a 10/10 MOTM performance only to end up being on a losing side. Mourinho had no choice than to give him a warm hug of encouragement after the final whistle. Sad but happy for Shaw’s revival. Still uploading though. #MUFC

Can’t remember a start to the season this depressing before. Players don’t look up for it at all. Only positive last night was Luke Shaw who looks like a completely different player this year. The rest need to buck their ideas up or it’ll be a struggle to get in the top 4 #MUFC
