When Wayne Rooney left Manchester United to rejoin boyhood club Everton last summer, many supporters felt that it was the right time for the striker to leave.

The club captain had spent 13 years at the North-West outfit, but in the latter seasons, he began to drift further and further down the pecking order.

United supporters wished Rooney well when the transfer was confirmed, but now some want him back at Old Trafford after the club’s reminder about one of his impressive goals.

Ahead of this weekend’s league match against Swansea City on home soil, United’s social media team posted a throwback video of Rooney’s bicycle kick against the Swans in 2014.

The tweet prompted some supporters to yearn for their former skipper, possibly because they are still recovering from the club’s Champions League defeat to Sevilla in the last-16 stage.

Others opted not to focus on the goal, but instead remind the club that the team actually went on to lose that game 2-1.
