What a topsy-turvy world the transfer window is. Just when you think you've made some progress on a deal and are waiting for the club to embarrass themselves with those cringe-inducing introduction videos on Twitter, a spanner gets thrown in the works.

Reports in recent weeks had suggested Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff was perhaps on his way to Manchester United, but now according to The Evening Standard, the Red Devils may just have pulled out of the race to sign him.

The report claims United have been left "stunned" by the Magpies' £50m valuation and that the club had initially only expected to pay a maximum of £25m; as such it is suggested Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are ready to drop their interest in the 21-year-old.

Supporters of the Manchester side were left stunned by the price tag as they claimed that they had "dodged a bullet" and insisted that Longstaff was an "overrated player".

Indeed, many suggested the price tag being quoted was "crazy" and that the deal was "embarrassing".
