As players age, they often lose a yard of pace or struggle to play a full 90 minutes, but one thing that never deserts them is their technique. And boy did Wayne Rooney prove that last night.

The Manchester United legend scored an absolutely insane goal in the MLS for DC United as he hearkened back to his days at Old Trafford with a goal from inside his own half.

After seeing their side's record goal-scorer roll back the years with a vintage effort, many Red Devils fans took to Twitter to voice their appreciation for Rooney.

Many felt the strike was deserving of the Puskas award this year, which is given to the scorer of the best goal of the season. Indeed, some United supporters thought Rooney's goal was evidence he could still hack it at the highest level and insisted he was probably better than some of their current strikers.

Fans of the Manchester side were glowing in their praise of the former England international, simply declaring him a "legend" and even questioning whether they got rid of him a bit too soon.
