The story of England’s 0-0 Nations League draw with World Cup finalists Croatia on Friday night could have been very different had Marcus Rashford managed to convert either of the clear goalscoring opportunities he was presented with in Rijeka.
Instead, the Manchester United forward twice fluffed his lines and the Three Lions ultimately failed to come away with all three points. On the night, Rashford did very little to convince Gareth Southgate that he is deserving of more starts for the Three Lions.
The 20-year-old has not impressed in the Premier League so far this season either. He has just one goal for Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils so far this season and also received his first career sending off early in the campaign against Burnley.
Following his poor night for the national team, plenty of Manchester United fans took to Twitter to comment upon what they saw from the young forward…
When given the chance to start up front through the middle, Marcus Rashford often disappoints. He’s a winger not an out and out striker. When will people realise #mufc

A team like mufc cannot just exist to develop players like rashford, that’s what the academy is for. We need to win major honors & rashford bottling chances after chances will not contribute to that

I just saw those chances that Rashford missed last night on Sky. Without sugarcoating words MARCUS RASHFORD really needs to work on his finishing. & don’t think it’s a managers job to teach him that, he should by himself. The talent is obviously evident #MUFC

Why is Rashford so careless in front of goal most of the time? Not once but twice last night. Seen it plenty of times in a United shirt too. Come on man, I know what you’re capable of, we saw it under LVG. Genuine question, is Mourinho to blame for his lack of progress? #MUFC

I just can’t deny anymore that the situation at the club, being on the wing, all the competition is leading to a lack of confidence or composure possibly and I may have to accept that the Rashford dream of him being a legend for my club and country may not come to be.
