After an impressive loan spell at Aston Villa last season saw Axel Tuanzebe help the Midlands side to the Premier League, a new long-term contract was waiting at Old Trafford to be signed.

The England U21 international duly put pen to paper on a new deal at Manchester United, and could have had some serious hope about potentially breaking into the Red Devils' line-up for the upcoming campaign.

However, The Daily Mail claim that Newcastle hold an interest in taking Tuanzebe to St James' Park this summer, with the Magpies' boss Steve Bruce already acquainted with the defender.

It was Bruce who initially signed the 21-year-old on loan for Villa whilst he was manager at Villa Park, and the report claims that he would be keen on reuniting with the defender on Tyneside.

The Daily Mail add that United will not allow Tuanzebe to leave the club until they sign another central defender, and so a move for Harry Maguire could hold all the cards.

After hearing about Newcastle's interest, United fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the matter.

Many supporters of the Manchester side insisted that Tuanzebe should not be granted an exit this summer as he was amongst their better central defenders.

Indeed, some suggested that United's struggles to sign Sean Longstaff should also factor into the club's thinking when it came to potentially doing a deal with Newcastle.
