Lots of Manchester United fans have been reacting to a revelation from The Manchester Evening News, who claim Nemanja Matic could “feasibly” be released next summer.

The report analyses the Red Devils’ current predicament in midfield, where outside of Paul Pogba no one is really good enough to guarantee a spot.

Matic, 31, has regressed and had a poor pre-season, Fred has struggled with the step up in competition from Ukraine, while Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira are still young and learning their craft.

For Matic though, the report claims this could be his last campaign in Manchester, perhaps making the situation a little clearer.

If that is the case, one would have to imagine McTominay keeps his place alongside Pogba, Pereira will see plenty of playing time too, while James Garner, who is also mentioned in the report, could get some chances here and there.

Matic is out of contract next summer with an option to extend for a further year, and judging from the Twitter reactions down below, fans are hoping that option is not exercised…
