Having confirmed the signings of both Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Swansea and Crystal Palace respectively, it seems Manchester United are ready to kick into gear with their bid to beef up their midfield.

Reports in recent weeks and months had suggested the Red Devils were keeping a close eye on Newcastle's breakout star Sean Longstaff, and now, the Manchester Evening News claim United are expected to "accelerate their plans this week".

The update on the move for the 21-year-old reveals that United want the midfielder to feature on their pre-season tour and that after finally getting the deal for Wan-Bissaka over the line, they can now focus their attentions on Longstaff.

After hearing the news, United fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the matter and many were rather underwhelmed by the prospect of paying big-money for another fairly unproven Premier League player.

Indeed, some fans of the Manchester side insisted that there were far better players out there than Longstaff and even urged the club to look towards academy players like James Garner instead.
