One of the club's greatest ever defenders, it's fair to say Nemanja Vidic etched himself into Manchester United folklore with his performances for the Red Devils.

The Serbian centre-half was one of the cornerstones of a formidable United back-line and enjoyed a fine partnership alongside fellow great Rio Ferdinand.

Now, in an interview with Elta TV (via the Daily Mail), Vidic's close friend Nenad Lalatovic has claimed the former United defender has been offered the U23s manager's job at Old Trafford.

After hearing about the news, fans of the Manchester side took to Twitter to reveal their thoughts on Vidic's potential comeback and many were rather excited by the prospect.

Some felt that the tough-tackling hard man would bring exactly the kind of mentality and attitude the younger players needed and felt he would be a fantastic inspiration for them to learn from.

Indeed, Vidic's winning mentality was something the fans thought would rub off on the academy stars, but there were a few murmurs of discontent.

A few United supporters thought the club should be targeting "proven" coaches instead of making decisions based off sentimentality and simply appointing legends.
