Jamie Carragher and Manchester United manager José Mourinho don't seem to have the same opinion on Marcus Rashford's role in the current United team.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, the former Liverpool defender tried to clarify the comments he made about Rashford a week ago, suggesting the England international might have to leave United in order to get his career back on track.

Much of the talk has been about where Rashford should play under Mourinho but with Belgian Romelu Lukaku in the team, the only option would be on the wing, although Rashford would prefer playing as a centre forward.

Mourinho however defended Rashford's position in the club, saying the 20-year-old is very much part of his plans. The Portuguese backed his statement with statistics on Rashford and how many minutes he has played so far for the club.

Carragher questioned Mourinho's comments, saying Rashford only has 12 Premier League starts since the Portuguese boss took the reigns at Old Trafford.

"I'm not saying Jose Mourinho is wrong and should play Rashford ahead of Lukaku - I'm not saying that, because he shouldn't, Lukaku is better than him - but if that lad wants to play centre-forward, how does he do that?" said Carragher, as reported by Sky Sports.
