There was plenty of promise when Alexis Sanchez signed for Manchester United in January, with many claiming that the Red Devils had pulled off an amazing coup.

It was heavily reported that the Chile international was going to join Manchester City from Arsenal, but the 29-year-old opted for their local rivals.

So far, Sanchez has failed to live up to the hype as he has scored just one goal in 10 appearances in all competitions.

On Tuesday night, the Chilean was selected to start in United's crucial Champions League last-16 second leg against Sevilla at Old Trafford.

The first leg was a disappointing one for the supporters as the team failed to score an away goal in Spain and ended up recording a goalless draw.

The lack of goalmouth action cost them in the return fixture as they put in a dismal display on home turf.

The team lacked desire, urgency and failed to produce enough meaningful attempts on goal.

Mourinho's men were undone by two goals from Wissam Ben Yedder, and even though Romelu Lukaku pulled one back for the Red Devils, it was not enough to secure a dramatic comeback.

Understandably, the fans were left furious with the team's limp exit from the Champions League, and Sanchez's anonymous performance came under fire.
