Manchester United fans are split on whether or not to let Nemanja Matic depart in January after a report in The Mirror claims the Serbian could leave due to falling further down the pecking order.

The former Chelsea man had a great first season at Old Trafford helping the club finish second and averaging 72.3 passes per league game and a 7.29 rating for that Premier League season. However, the last 12 months have been an entirely different story. This season Matic has averaged just 40 passes per game and has been dispossessed 1.3 times per match in just three league appearances.

His poor form under Jose Mourinho in the Portuguese's latter stages at the club has seen Scott McTominay often used as a replacement, including during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's reign so far. Also, with Paul Pogba's undroppable creativity of 13 league goals and nine assists last season, Matic has found himself far from the starting XI, and often even behind the likes of Fred.

However, despite the 31-year-old's questionable form, the sales of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini have left United with little depth in the centre, and letting another man go would surely not be wise.

Regardless of his abilities under Solskjaer, the Norwegian must learn from his mistakes in letting players go and find a replacement before he sells again.
