Manchester United fans want club to sign Matthijs de Ligt after latest Ajax display

Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt impressed and kept a clean sheet as his side won the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie against Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in the English capital on Tuesday, and Manchester United fans are keen for their club to sign the teenager.

Despite being only 19 years of age the Netherlands international once again looked as though he had been playing the game for a decade at Spurs new stadium, and as well as helping the Eredivisie giants keep a clean sheet he also showcased his quality in possession of the football.

That ability is something that the Red Devils are sorely lacking right now as they face a battle to secure qualification for the Champions League next term themselves, and a ball-playing defender may be high up on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s wanted list in the summer.

With the potential he has as well as the fact that he has made 113 appearances for Ajax and is also their captain, it will surely take a hefty fee if Ed Woodward wants to prise him away from the Amsterdam-based outfit in the close season however.

United supporters clearly want their club to try however, with one saying “if we had any ambition, we’d offer £100m for De Ligt tomorrow”, while another said “someone tell hopeless Ed Woodward to splash £100m on De Ligt”.
