Manchester United join Chelsea in race for striker

Anzhi star Samuel Eto'oManchester United are in the race for Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o, according to reports from The Mirror.

The Cameroonian international looks set to leave the Dagestan-based outfit after the club’s billionaire owner, Suleyman Kerimov, elected to pull the financial plug.

His actions have seen a number of big name players placed on the transfer list, including Eto’o – who is the highest paid footballer on the planet.

Reports claim that he is keen on a move to Chelsea to link up with Jose Mourinho – whom he worked under at inter Milan – but the Blues are said to be more interested in Wayne Rooney.

The 32-year-old’s representatives have claimed that Napoli and Inter are also tracking the front-man, but now sources close to the player himself are insisting that Manchester United are keen.

Red Devils chief David Moyes is yet to make a marquee signing since taking control at Old Trafford, and could be tempted to draft in the ex-Barcelona star.

Eto’o is said to be willing to take a massive pay-cut in a bid to force a move to the Premier League.

He currently earns an eye watering £14m-per-year after tax, a wage that was handed to him to lure him to the Russian top flight.
