Manchester United keen on Zenit ace

Axel Witsel (Zenit Saint-Petersburg)Manchester United are keeping tabs on Zenit Saint-Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel, according to reports from CalcioMercato.

The Belgian midfielder has been hailed as one of Europe’s top talents for some time, and only completed a big money move to Russia last year.

However, United manager David Moyes is hopeful that he can lure the 24-year-old to Old Trafford to partner him with compatriot Marouane Fellaini.

The Red Devils chief is desperate to land at least one top player this January after enduring a difficult summer on the transfer front.

A number of targets slipped through the Premier League champions’ net, leaving them with Fellaini as their only notable arrival.

Witsel is thought to be one of Moyes’ preferred options, with the powerful yet classy midfielder suiting his requirements.

The ex-Benfica man has only been in Russia 18-months, but may consider a move to one of Europe’s top leagues.

United were linked with his signature prior to his £32.5m switch to Zenit, but failed to make a serious offer.

Witsel has 40 international caps to his name and is a key part of Belgium’s promising set-up.

Moyes is also thought to be considering a move for Barcelona’s Alex Song.

Manchester United fans, would Axel Witsel be a good signing?
