Manchester United keep tabs on Brazilian starlet

Corinthians defender Antonio CarlosManchester United scouts are following the steps of Corinthians defender Antonio Carlos, the Mirror reports.

Old Trafford talent-spotters in South America have been following the centre-back and it is believed first contacts have been established with the club’s director of football, former Arsenal player Edu.

The 19 year-old has played in several occasions with Corinthians senior team, although it was his performance with the junior side that caught Man United scouts’ attention.

Brazil Under-20 captain has been recently loaned to Serie C side Oeste de Itapolis in order to boost his progression, as he was expected not to have many opportunities to continue with his development this season at Corinthians.

Carlos is expected to play for Oeste during the 2013 season – May to December – and then return to Corinthians.

However, Manchester United officials might have other plans and could prepare a bid to bring the youngster to Old Trafford during the summer window.

With Carlos, United would be looking to reinforce the centre-back thinking towards the future before players like Rio Ferdinand (34) or Nemanja Vidic (31) leave the club.
