Manchester United have made an official offer of £25million for Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas according to the BBC, although his former club Arsenal have first refusal on the player for the same price.
Barcelona are understood to be considering United’s offer for the 26-year-old, although it is considered to be below their valuation.
Fabregas is not pushing for a move away from the Nou Camp, but is understood to be open to a return to the Premier League, and is waiting to see how Barcelona react to the bid.
David Moyes has made no secret of his desire to strengthen the middle of the park at Old Trafford, and sees Fabregas as the ideal signing having already missed out on Thiago Alcantara.
Whether this bid will attract a counter-offer from Arsenal remains to be seen. The Gunners are said to have first refusal on their former captain, an agreement written into Fabregas’s contract on completing a move to the Nou Camp in the summer of 2011.
The Spain international spent eight years with the Gunners, playing 303 games and scoring 57 goals, after joining from the Barcelona youth academy in 2003.
Since returning to Barca, Fabregas has helped them to Copa Del Ray glory in 2011/2012 and the La Liga title in 2012/2013.
