Manchester United make Porto star top target

Eliaquim Mangala (Porto)Manchester United boss David Moyes has made Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala one of his top January targets, according to reports from The Times.

The Red Devils coach endured a woeful summer in the transfer market, with Marouane Fellaini – a £27.5m deadline day arrival – his only piece of business.

A number of other deals collapsed, which has prompted speculation that the Scot is set to up his activity this winter.

Signing a central-defender is said to be a priority for Moyes, who is growing increasingly concerned by Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand’s advancing years.

Mangala has emerged as the ex-Everton boss’ main target, with the Frenchman having been impressive for Porto.

The 22-year-old is one of the most sought after players in Europe after emerging as a top talent with the Portuguese champions.

Although he only joined the club from Standard Liege last year, it is thought that he could be open to a big move.

Manchester City, Chelsea and Barcelona are just a few top sides to have been linked with Mangala, who is valued at around £30m.

United are also monitoring Ander Herrera.

The Athletic Bilbao midfielder was linked with a summer move to Old Trafford, but the Premier League champions failed to make a move.
