Manchester United & Manchester City ‘Combined XI’

With the title race all but sown up this season and Sir Alex Ferguson’s side set to regain their Premier League crown from local rivals Manchester City, the game at Old Trafford looks set to be little more than a matter of bragging rights and professional pride, as City bid to close the somewhat embarrassing 15-point gap between the two at the top of the table.

The only rule going is that they can’t be chosen for this team if they are deemed unavailable for selection for the actual match itself; that means Maicon and Jack Rodwell miss out with a knee and hamstring injury respectively, with Micah Richards expected to recover from his six-month lay-off to feature either from the start of more likely on the bench. Meanwhile, United go into the clash without Darren Fletcher and Rafael, who are ruled out with a chronic bowel condition and a groin complaint.
