Manchester United move for Joe Hart wouldn’t make much sense

As reported by The Sun, Manchester United are interested in signing goalkeeper Joe Hart from rivals Manchester City.

What’s the story?

The paper report that Sergio Romero will be looking to leave the club this summer, meaning the Red Devils will be on the hunt for a new number two as back-up to the ever reliable David De Gea.

Joe Hart is said to be on the list of potential replacements, with The Sun believing he ticks all the boxes that Jose Mourinho is looking for in De Gea’s deputy.

Rated at £9m by Transfermarkt, should they making a move for Hart this summer?

Not a wise choice

It’s fair to say Joe Hart’s career has dwindled since the heady days of being a fan favourite number one at Manchester City.

Difficult loan spells at Torino and West Ham have meant he’s lost his place in the England squad and there’s obviously no room for him at the Etihad now Ederson has made the position his own.

Given the amount of high profile mistakes he’s made in recent season, United would be taking a risk relying on him as a number two, especially when they have capable reserve goalkeepers in the likes of Sam Johnstone, who has impressed on loan at Aston Villa.

Hart hasn’t been able to cope with the pressure of life at smaller clubs such as the Hammers, so putting him in the full glare of the Manchester United spotlight doesn’t seem like the wisest of transfer decision should the Old Trafford side make their move.
