Arsenal boss Unai Emery is considering a late move for AC Milan left-back Ricardo Rodriguez to solve his injury crisis, according to the Daily Mail, but Manchester United should attempt to hijack the deal in order to fill a void of their own.

What's the story?

With Sead Kolasinac facing up to 10 weeks out with a knee injury and Nacho Monreal yet to return to training after picking up a knock during Spain's World Cup campaign, versatile youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles is in line to start in an unfavoured position against Manchester City on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

However, clearly Emery feels a more long-term solution is required and is targetting Rodriguez, but the Mail have reported that AC Milan are not keen to sell the Swiss international and it could cost Arsenal £30m to bring him to the Emirates.

The 25-year-old signed for Milan just last summer and made 47 appearances in all competitions for the club last season, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

Problem position

It would seem that left-back is also a problem for Manchester United, with Mourinho's nemesis Luke Shaw playing most of preseason whilst Ashley Young takes extended holiday after the World Cup.

New signing Diogo Dalot can also play left-back but signed for the club with an injury sustained at the end of last season which will keep him out until September.

Rodriguez could be the perfect big-name signing that Mourinho is craving towards the end of the transfer window and the attacking left-back could certainly be a success in the Premier League.
