According to The Sun, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have the entire sum of money made from Romelu Lukaku's sale to Inter available to spend in the January transfer window.

What's the word?

The Belgium international made his long-awaited exit from Old Trafford on deadline day earlier in the summer, and it was suggested United had received a fee north of £70m.

Now, The Sun claim Solskjaer will be able to use the money raised from the 26-year-old's departure to bolster his squad in the upcoming January window, if necessary. The report further adds the United boss is "keen" to bring in a creative midfielder and will assess the situation in the New Year.

Reinforcements

Whilst the Red Devils have enjoyed a rather fine start with a victory over Chelsea and a draw against Wolves, there remains a nagging feeling that they still remain light on options up front. Following Lukaku's exit, and the potential departure of Alexis Sanchez too, United only have Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood as their sole strikers.

Indeed, one look at the bench for the clash at Molineux on Monday night painted a picture of worrying squad depth going forward. Solskjaer only had Juan Mata, Andreas Pereira and Greenwood as players to turn to when the side needed a goal, and so it should be a major priority for the Red Devils to remedy that in January.

The club were linked with a whole host of players over the course of the summer, but many moves failed to materialise by the end of the window. If United are serious on pushing for the top four this season, then they simply must spend the Lukaku money in January and buff up that bench.
