Have Manchester United finally stumbled onto Paul Pogba's best position after all this time? Since the France World Cup winner arrived from Juventus back in 2016, the 26-year-old has had to endure countless questions from everybody about where exactly he fitted in.

Was it on the left of a midfield three like how he thrived in his time in Italian football? Was it as a number ten where he could just express his creativity and not worry about the defensive work? Well, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's work in United's flawless pre-season tour of Australia and Asia has certainly raised the distinct possibility that the Red Devils may just have found the answer to all their problems.

Partnered alongside Scott McTominay in a midfield two in a 4-2-3-1, Pogba has excelled rather impressively and more than anything silenced any doubts that speculation over his future could see him down tools. The Frenchman has been back to his brilliant best, showing poise and technique in tight spaces, and those trademark Patrick Vieira-esque bursts from deep in midfield.

Some of that credit has to go down to McTominay and Solskjaer himself. The former's tenacity off the ball and ever-improving range of passing has complimented Pogba's more natural offensive game, and it has brought United a dominant feel to the battle in the middle of the park.

Indeed, speaking after their 2-1 win over Tottenham on Thursday, Solskjaer admitted: "I thought they played really well in the first-half. They haven't done that before (the tour) as a two and today I thought they really looked really like a good pair.

"He can play in a two like he does for France but he has also got the freedom of picking his moments, when to go forward. Same with Scott, maybe his best position is like a number eight running forward. But I thought the two played very disciplined tonight."

As ever, discipline will be the key to how this promising pair works in the future and certainly whether the level of performance they have produced so far can be replicated when the Premier League campaign gets under way. One thing is for sure though, when United open the season up against Chelsea, a midfield axis of Pogba and McTominay should be given the chance to shine.
