The former Holland manager is looking to make his third big signing this summer, and believes Blind would be a perfect fit at Old Trafford. Blind could team up with van Persie at United, a month after the wing-back played a perfect 50-yard cross for the former Arsenal striker in one of the goals of the World Cup against Spain.
Since the announcement of van Gaal as United boss, many Dutch internationals have been linked with the Premier League side, including Arjen Robben and Stefan de Vrij. But Blind could be the first from the World Cup squad to move to Old Trafford, due to his versatility. The 24-year-old can play at left back, or as a defensive midfielder.
Blind got a lot of praise during Holland’s World Cup campaign, just a month after receiving the Dutch Footballer of the Year 2014 award. The wing-back was instrumental in helping Ajax win a fourth consecutive Eredivisie title. But it could be the last Dutch award he wins, should United push through a £17million move for him.
The Express are reporting that Chief Executive Ed Woodward has left the squad on the U.S. tour in order to push through transfers for van Gaal.
