Manchester United are planning a January move for Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, according to reports from El Mundo Deportivo.

Despite securing a deadline day swoop for Marouane Fellaini, Red Devils chief David Moyes is still keen to bolster his midfield options, and sees the ex-Arsenal man as the ideal candidate to add some creativity and steel to his engine room.

Song is believed to be considering his future at the Nou Camp, with first-team opportunities hard to come by.

The Cameroonian is in direct competition with Sergio Busquets, who is regarded as one of the La Liga champions’ key men.

Barca have also attempted to field him as a centre-back, but the conversion was not successful.

The 27-year-old made just 17 La Liga starts last term, and has followed that up with one in the opening fixtures of the current campaign.

As a result he is believed to be planning to leave the Catalan giants in a bid to get his career back on track.

United may competition from Arsenal and Tottenham for Song’s signature, but Moyes is hopeful that he can persuade the midfielder to make a move to old Trafford.
